Engraving Contour selection question?

How do you select the contours of letters & numbers without having to select each segment of open chain?

Number "8" is a closed loop but "6" has a closed loop and open loop.

I was hoping to use the "select box tool" to select all points but when I go into contour selection box is not an option?

Having to pick every segment of an open chain is very time consuming and if you miss one tiny segment you have to start over.

I have to engrave numbers 1 thru 8

Is there a better or easier way?

If the engraved font is a separate sketch, you can select that sketch from the Browser.

If you could share your file, I'd be happy to show you how to create the toolpath needed.

File > Export > Save to local folder, return to thread and attach the .f3d file in your reply

1. you choose Silouette, but you must choose Sketchprolife to select the sketch

2. your sketch is not on the surface but tangential to the surface

Now you have two options

First option: You project the sketch to be engraved onto the surface and use projection operation

Second option: You use a different operation, that would be my recommendation.

And that would be 3D projection:

For both solutions, however, you have to change your sketch slightly - your projected side line must become a construction line, otherwise it will also be engraved.

This gives you a nice toolpath along your lateral surface

You usually have to Explode Text before it can be selectable for machining.
