Difference between entry ramp methods: Smooth Profile and Helix?

I'm trying to figure out the difference between smooth profile and helix. They seem to produce the exact same tool path, just slightly offset. The name helix seems apt to me, but for smooth profile I feel like I should be seeing something similar to the result profile gives... but smoother?

 

Could someone explain the difference or show me an example of what its used?

That's a logical assumption, and truthfully, I do not know the answer to the question. I've never personally used the Smooth Profile option, but now I'm curious. I'll make some inquiries and post back here when I have an answer.

 

In some cases, I am able to get them to behave differently

Good day! I run smooth profile over helix on my pockets. I'm using it on an older yasnac i80MB controller, which does not allow for 3 axis inputs. For example, if I run helix, it outputs x y z as well as corresponding I and J. I found using the smooth profiling, the code I get is z with either an x/I, or a y/j, which is great because I don't get an error then. Could just be a "problem" with my post.
