.. how to water jet cut an imported stl ...

I have imported an .stl file from inventor, to fusion. i have been able to successfully create milling profiles, however i am unable to select a contour for a water jet cut.

I have tired creating a cut plane, to project cut geometry to, this doesn't seem to work either. I could import the cut profile from inventor, however I'm not sure how I could align that profile to the stl part in fusion.

I'm stumped, please help.

Thank you,

Was this an .stl file in Inventor as well? If not, export it as a more "CAM appropriate" file type, such as .xt or .stp file. Also, Fusion does open up native Inventor files with no issue.

If it was always an ,stl file, your options are limited. You can convert the .stl to a Brep model and select edges that way. However, performance is going to be downright awful
