Hi Crew,
Since the last update I cannot post programs to a networked drive.
I have a machine connected directly to my laptop. When I post a program it used to dump it straight into the machine, I would then select that program on the machine and run it.
Now fusion is giving me a warning and saying that it is unable to write to this folder.
I haven't done any windows updates or made any changes on the laptop. There have been no changes made on the machine.
I still can still access the machine through windows explorer and can still move programs to and from the machine as before. The only thing that wont let me access the machine is fusion.
I need this fixed ASAP please.
Idea suggestion. MAKE A ROLLBACK FEATURE!!!!
This will allow me to keep my machine running. This will allow me to keep my BUSINESS running.
Was Fusion installed with admin privileges? I also had some funky behavior on my Fusion where I could do things only when I ran it with admin privileges and not locally. The way I solved it was to uninstall and install Fusion. Fusion has a specific recommended way to go about uninstalling/reinstalling: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How...
Edit: If your folder on the machine needs to have specific privileges to write, make sure you install Fusion 360 on a user with those privileges (or admin if that's the one required).
Tried restoring fusion, tried resetting fusion and tried to a compete clean install.
Still not working.
What an absolute joke.
Can you do an export to the machine folder directory from Fusion 360? Just to check if the writing issues is only for the post or just for anything from Fusion 360. I'm not familiar with the inners of Fusion 360, but in my limited programming experience, writing permission errors are usually tied to which user the program is running under, not so much the program itself. So if you can't export to that folder directory from Fusion 360, that might say something about how Fusion 360 permission level. What is the exact error that Fusion 360 gives when you try to post it to the network drive?
I can save to the O:/ (which is the CNC) with any other software. I can open the file in a text editor and then 'Save As' in select the O:/ and it works fine.
I can drag and drop files into O:/ through windows explorer .
The only thing that has issues accessing the O:/ is fusion.
The CNC hasn't been turned off in over a week. The laptop hasn't been turned off in more than a week.
No updates or changes have been made to the CNC or to the laptop.
The only thing that has changed is fusion.
Started my morning, saw there was an update available for fusion so I applied it.
Boom, now fusion wont recognize that the O:/ exists.
Tried other post processors and its the same.
Tried a really old laptop that has an old version of fusion running and it posts out just fine.
It's not the CNC or any cable/network router issues.
It's not windows issues with permissions as no other software of machines have any problems accessing the O:/ drive.
And no, I cant even export a file from fusion to the O:/
I've just tried a few other tests. I cannot export files or post files to any network drive. The latest update has completely disabled all access to anything other than a local directory or the cloud.
That sounds pretty bizarre (and frustrating) indeed. This might be a little bit of a rabbit hole, but what I would try as a workaround is to create a "hard" symbolic link in windows to make the program think the network drive is actually local. You can do this by opening a command prompt with administrator level, and typing
mklink /J "C:\Users\Name\Local\Folder" "O:\Machine\Folder\"
A reference for symbolic links in Windows
First check with the other programs if you can now save to C:\Users\Name\Local\Folder to see if the link is working correctly (w.e. you save to the "Local\Folder" should actually be saved in the machine folder). Hopefully the Fusion can be tricked this way and you can continue with your workflow while w.e. bug caused this is worked out. Good luck!
Edit: Just in case, Windows docs on mklink
As a sanity check, I would also:
1) Check under what user Fusion is running. You can do this by opening the Task Manager > Details > Scrolling to see Fusion360.exe and seeing the User Name.
2) Right click on explorer on O:/ to see the properties, and clicking the "Security" tab. Now check that the User that is running Fusion360.exe has the same permissions as in a local folder that you know Fusion360 can write. Maybe the new update requires additional permissions apart just write...? If all the permissions are the same, then the above "hard link" should theoretically work. If the permissions are different between the O:/ and the local folder, I would try making the permissions the same and check if now Fusion can write to the O:/ (after a restart of Fusion360 just to cover the bases)
I did as you said and checked permissions etc and all appears to be as it should. It's just weird, I don't get why it's not working.
I looked at the symbolic link...... But I'm hesitant to do it.
It's a grey area of my ability and I'm nervous of doing the wrong thing and causing further issues (getting the network communications to the CNC originally was a bear of a problem to get sorted. I really don't want to go down that road again)
I'll just leave it a few days and wait for for the daily updates to finish (the ones that fix all their mistakes after an update) and then I'll investigate it further.
In the mean time I'll just post to a USB and transfer it to the machine. I'll also get some up to date pricing from Solid works or Mastercam. I've had a gut full of Autodesk and their attitude of using paying customers as their Guinea pigs to find bugs in their software.
Thanks for your help and trying to find a solution for me.
I feel for you, specially with the USB temporary fix. I find USB sticks to be a pain for loading programs... you could post to your local drive on your laptop, then drag and drop that file to your O: drive on the machine (from windows explorer, since you said that works), it would avoid the USB manipulation. I hope you get this resolved soon!
Hi slaedder85,
Sorry, no I haven't.
I'm just posting it and then opening it up in my g-code editor and selecting "save as" and then saving it to the machine.
Something like this happens on every update and the development team always deny it's a problem or just simply ignore it. They are too busy giving the interface a "face lift" so they can meet their monthly quota to justify their jobs. Stop fixing things that aren't broken.
We'll just have to sit on our hands and suffer as paying customers and wait for the next disaster to happen next month.
@ProExtra , thank you for feedback.
Sorry to hear, that something does not work as expected. You can blame me for this issue.
To fix it properly, we need some more information from your side. Can you check, if it possible to create subfolders on your network drive, or it is disallowed? Basically, Fusion reports this error, if it fails to create subfolder in the specified location. Why it cannot do this is outside of our control, unfortunately. In most cases it is some permission issue, that can be fixed by changing network settings on your machine.
BTW, "compare and edit" command does not do this check, and can be used to change location of NC program to anything you want. But in this case you will have to post through the context menu. I understand, it is not convenient, but can be used as a workaround right now.
@Anonymous Shapilov
Thank you for the reply,
Nothing on my CNC, Laptop or network has changed. None of these 3 had been turned off, updated or even restarted on the days leading up to the problem.
In answer to your question,
Yes, it is possible to create sub-folders on the network drive. This can be done through any software on the computer EXCEPT for fusion. Fusion is able to see the network is there, but upon selecting that network/drive, it creates the error.
There are no permission issues. The only issue is trying to do something through fusion that worked just fine before the update.
