I am trying to walk out  a a .500" bore to proper size using the Wear setting for cutter comp. i am using the "Bore" operation with a .250" end mill (I also get the same error using 2d contour as well). no matter what i set the lead in distances to my controller always throws an error . i am running a Fryer MB-10R with a Siemens 828D sinumeric controller. the error code i am getting is 10751: Danger of collision due to cutter radius compensation.

Have you succesfully used Wear compensation before? How do you define your tools in the control?

Do you have any value set in the Radius compensation? 

 

With Wear comp, you would ideally want no value in any column (except for length). You then adjust out from there.

I have used wear comp for some external profiling with 2d contour tool paths (just testing, not for "real" parts). Every tool is set up in the control at its nominal diameter and touched off for length. In the tool i am trying to walk in has the wear set to .0005, but everything else is at zero.

Now, in (most) Fanuc and Mitsubishi world, I would not enter in anything into the diameter. I would have length offset and that's it. All other fields at zero. Wear comp would also be at zero and the I'd add in a -.0005" if I wanted to reduce the size of an OD by .001" (or increase a hole by .001")

We sometimes use the machine in conversational so we need to have diameter offsets entered in the controller for those to work right. plus i have had wear offsets work on outside 2D contours for me
