5 axis contouring and profiling troubles

Hey everyone,

So I've been struggling to get a usable toolpath with fusions' 5-axis/ multi-axis options. I've attached a part file and screenshot to make things easier to understand. Its a section from the full part but the area in question is colored green.

My goal is to have a 0.06 bull endmill walk around edge while maintaining perpendicularity with the bottom surface to finish both the walls, bottom, and create that 0.06 fillet in the bottom. I have tried flow, swarf, multi-axis contour, as well as 3d contour with multi-axis tilt but unfortunately haven't been able to get anything close with anything but flow. However the flow toolpath has a bunch of its own problems that I cannot seem to fix. They are:

  • toolpath won't extend to the walls (tried deleting bottom fillets but nothing changed)
  • stepovers don't match the number specified (in screenshot 2 shown, 5 specified)
  • one of the surfaces has waaaay too many point which causes machine jitters and smoothing doesn't help until its past the allowable deviation.
  • flow doesn't seem like the right operation for doing the finish profile, still need to figure out how to do that.

Anyone got some suggestions?

I greatly appreciate any and all ideas on this.

Thanks,

I have a hunch that multi-axis contour with an offset sketch projected onto the surface might work but I'm having a lot of troubles getting a uniform sketch that follows the wall and lays on the curved surface.

Think this might be worth pursuing or a fools errand?
