Hello,

Can someone please tell me how to enable 4 and 5 axis machining?

It is not showing up on my Fusion 360 interface.

4 and 5 axis options don't really impact your interface on a visual level. It's not like a whole new set of options becomes available. Where you need to be looking is in each individual toolpath operation. On the second tab (geometry) of each operation, be it 2D or 3D contour, 2D or 3D adaptive, drilling, facing etc, there is a radio box titled "Tool Orientation". Turning that on will grant you the ability to assign it a new orientation, independent of your Setup WCS. Bear in mind, this is currently ONLY 3+1 and 3+2 machining. What I mean by that is it's positioning only. Fusion does not yet have 4 and 5 axis Simultaneous machining. It's coming very soon, but currently is not yet available

@LibertyMachine you say "Fusion does not yet have 4 and 5 axis Simultaneous machining. It's coming very soon, but currently is not yet available" Are you saying that because everyone else is saying that??? Or do you actually know something? And finally "very soon" is relative. Are we talking 2016? Thanks!

It's on the Roadmap

If it was a long way out, I'd highly doubt it would grace the roadmap. I can't say if it's 2016 or 2017, but realistically, '16 is almost done. I'd be interested to see what comes out of AutoDesk University in a couple of weeks

Places like that are usually where the dev team will unveil new builds and goals for the coming year.

A man can hope, no? :slightly_smiling_face:

Indeed one can hope... And I think you are right the Autodesk University is likely going to be showing this off

Does this help?

Note, I love to engage on the forums. However, I spend a lot of time in meetings trying to help clear the path for our amazing team of Developers working on Manufacturing at Autodesk. So, if I don't respond immediately, it's not that I don't care.

@LibertyMachine it interesting what you find out from ig, they started to email ultimate user's weeks ago about it. I suppose they told the EE about it the same time.

good idea changing you handle

Yeah, it's been floating around a bit, but again, not sure if it was open knowledge.

yeah, my old gearsoup handle really wasn't reflecting who I've grown to be, mainly from my IG and Fusion participation/activities

Ultimate user here myself, little of what I know stems from being an EE

Xander,

really nice to see the Pocket NC with this capacity.

My question is indirectly related to the technical aspect of 5 axis.

I need to know if the license provided by Pocket NC will renew when it comes to term.

I believe it is a one year subscription...

Second question, does one need the Ultimate version to do the 3+2? My guess is yes....

All of these points are really not clearly indicated in the app store.

What material are you cutting in this demo file? Feed speed?

Hello,

The license provided with the PocketNC is only for one year, and will need to be renewed at the end of the year.

In order to do 3+2 Axis Fusion 360 Ultimate is required: https://www.autodesk.com/store/products/fusion-360-ultimate?term=1year&support=advanced

Fusion 360 Standard supports full 3 Axis machining, but does not include features like 3+2 positioning and 5 Axis toolpaths. (Ultimate also has other features).

In my demos I  am cutting Machinable Wax, and I am using a 2 flute 1/8th endmill, running at 9,000rpm, cutting at 40 in/min, .125" to .25" depth of cut.

Best,

-Xander Luciano

Xander, thanks for the information.

While I have you here, can you create some content on the following topic:

I sometimes need to do a second operation on a part, and need to set the part in a different set-up.

A different set up, or a new set-up.

I would like to see how you would handle the problem, of precisely placing the part in reference to the coordinate system of the machine.

Said differently, how would you make sure the part is where it is supposed to be, so the cutting is done where it needs to be...

In traditional machining, you do a series touch-off, and set the reference axis to zero and go from there.

How do you do this on the Pocket NC, when your computer is not connected to the machine?

Hi,

I watched what you have on YouTube.
Looks to me that some of the parts I want to make need 4/5th machining. I have Fadal4020 with Tsudakoma TRNC-301S fully operational. Material is Al6061T6
Can you look on the file and let me know if that would be able to be manufactured (specifically upper 3 wedge parts)

Thank you for your time.
