3D Parallel milling

Hello,

I'm trying to use a ball end-mill to contour mill a vice jaw. The toolpath does a weird jump over the bolt holes. The selection process seems to be very limited with 3d parallel milling. The alt key does not seem to function. I would like to select only the semi-cylindrical area, and ignore the bolt holes. Also, I would like a little horizontal lead-in/lead-out, but i can't get that to work either.

Model attached.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Hi @forrest86LD6,

create a patch surface over the hols and select them within the parallel operations for the model section.

This will Mill also those faces so you get a smooth surface finishing.

Thanks for the response. There must be an easier way? What about lead-in/lead-out. Doesn't 3d parallel support that?

The easy way is to delete the holes or have a defeatured model, it takes 30 seconds to put the patches over the holes.

I took a look at your design and you're making it harder than it needs to be. You've not taken advantage of the hole tool and use a lot more sketches than are needed.

I've resigned and before adding the holes used boundary fill to create a copy of the body to using for machining. Also offset the faces to make it bigger X and Y so the whole upper side is machined past the edges.

New.pngThe CAMPart is only selected in the parallel op under Model on the geometry tab. The toolpath nicely overcuts the actual model, adjust the offset to whatever you're happy with.

File's attached. Double check I've got the sizes correct.
