3D Contour Toolpath gouging

3D Contour Toolpath gouging

The 3D toolpath I'm using to finish the radii on the top of this SS part is gouging, and gouging bad.

I've tried it with smoothing on and off which seems to be buggy as all get out since the last update or the one before. I never had problems with it until now.

Attached is the file I'm working on. Toolpaths are as they were ran. Couldn't get passed the first "fin" as it gouges about 45 seconds in or so.

What machine and post processor are you using? I'm not seeing this in the Simulation. I've got a suspicion what's going on, but I'd like to hear the Post and Machine you are using

Dogleg rapid. You need to be using "High Feed" for all toolpaths that are not retracting out of the part on every return pass. Any rapid move that occurs inside the part will take on what's called a "dogleg" move.

Essentially, one of the axis are going to arrive at their destination before another axis will and result in this gouge.

Does it also have something to do with the linking? More specifically the full retract vs shortest and minimum paths? I changed from shortest to full retract and it seems ok.

could I have ran shortest and changed the dogleg settings? Where is that?

what about my smoothing issue as well? I used to do a tolerance of .0025” and smoothing of .0025 and had very good results. Now it won’t let me do that.

You had this set to "Preserve Rapid Movement"

We want to set it to "Use High Feed" or "Preserve Axial Rapid Movement" (which should only give you G0's on Z moves)

Regarding Smoothing; when you say you can't, do you mean it fails, or succeeds but gives a warning?

Got that dogleg figured out thank you for that.

As far as the smoothing, yes it does complete it, but gives a warning saying it’ll gouge.
