3d Adaptive clearing with chamfer mill

Hi all,
I am trying to do a 3D adaptive clearing parallel operation with a chamfer mill/ spot drill (something with a sharp point) to create a cross hatch pattern. Fusion 360 wont let me do it,

Invalid tool type for milling.

No option to ignore the error.

Is there another way to do this without setting the tool up as a different tool to trick the program into letting me do it?

 

I would like to run the simulation properly, so I can see the results, if I fake it with a ball mill it doesn't give me the intended result.

I believe you can do this with a "Tapered Mill", although I've not tried it.

 

One comment: You mention 3D Adaptive Parralel operation. That's two different toolpaths, which one are you using?

 

Could you share your file here so we have a better idea of what you are trying to accomplish? It's possible we may be able to present you with a better solution.

To share: File > Export > Save to local folder > Return to thread and attach the .f3d file in your reply

Hi Seth, thanks for the quick reply.

I am using a parallel operation, sorry for the confusion.

 

I tried using a tapered mill, but you cant actually get the tip down to 0mm. When I set it to a vary small number, it worked. But was taking forever to calculate the tool path. After a few minutes it was at only 40%.

 

I made and attached a quick sample of what I am attempting using a ball endmill and it woks. I just need to work out how to do it with an angle rather than a curve.

Seems to calculate fine here (about 5 secs) using a 12mm 45deg Chamfer Mill with a 0.025mm (.001") tip diameter?

Awesome, thanks for that Trigger, so the problem was the 0mm tip, anything greater than absolute 0 works.

 

Results look good too, now that I could play with the depth values.
