Workspace Layout Needs 2 Things To Be 100X Better

Every time I open a part for manufacturing the following must happen...

  1. Re-size browser (operation names are cut off, drag top of browser bar out so you can see full names)
  2. Re-position operation dialogue box (always snaps to right side of screen, I prefer to have it snapped to browser)
  3. Constantly fight with operation dialogue box auto-fitting to the wrong size (height , width, sometimes both)

I think the following 2 features would improve the user experience quite a bit.

  1. Allow us to "save current layout". I see that there is an option to reset to default but I can't seem to find a way to make fusion remember my last layout. (Here I mean where dialogues are snapped and if they are floating, remember where they are positioned)
  2. More control over dialogue box size
    • When dialogues are snapped to something, allow vertical re-sizing. Currently when a dialogue is snapped, you are unable to change the vertical size. However if you un-snap the box (make floating), you can drag the bottom right hand corner to resize both horizontally & vertically. I'd like to have this option when the box is snapped.
    • An auto size function would be great. The heights tab is almost always going to be smaller (vertically) than the passes tab. It would be great if the dialogue box would automatically re-size to show as many parameters as possible. I see this happen (at some capacity) every once in a while but it doesn't seem to be consistent. For example sometimes the dialogue has a lot of empty space and other times it is undersize and requires scrolling to view all parameters (screen shots below). I can dive into this more to find out what conditions cause which sizing behaviors if someone needs that info.

These are some thoughts that I've had for a while but finally took the time to write up. I'm curious to see if others have had the same experience and/or if there are plans to make improvements in future updates. Please let me know if I can clarify anything.

Thanks for reading!

+1 from me!

I agree to most of the above. Fusion rarely saves my layout preferences (although sometimes it does?!). I always have to resize browser and minimise the "Text Commands" box that I've never used can that be turned off?

It's also true of a fair few areas in Fusion where windows do not remember the last view settings. I'm thinking tool library and NC program window. Not so much a resizing issue but would be nice if they opened to the same view they were closed on.

For the tool library that would be the last library you were in.

For the NC Program window I'd like to see the Operations tab remember what was expanded/collapsed rather than opening everytime with every operation folder, set up etc fully expanded.

Anyway I hope they do some work on this I've brought it up before but nothing has changed. The software could do with a fair bit of finessing around these areas. Please... 🙂
