Warning: Empty toolpath.

Creating a 25" wide X 2.50" long slot in .190" thick material.  Using adaptive clearing one step before to create a 1.250" through pocket / hole.  Using a .125" dia end mill.  Am getting an error message that the Toolpath is empty, but when i run generate toolpath I get a message there a toolpath already exists. Why it's doing that could be several number of things; contour selection, entrance parameters (most likely), geometry that we aren't seeing, etc

Your best shot at an answer is to export and attach the file and we can see what your selections are.

To export: File > Export > Save to local folder. Return to thread and attach the .f3d in your next reply

The Empty Toolpath warning is always a fun one Smiley LOL

Things to check: Minimum Radius (Passes Tab) may be too large to allow the toolpath to calculate, but this is usually set to 10% of the cutter diameter. Helix Diameter (Linking Tab) may be too large to allow the tool to ramp into the pocket, so try changing the minimum size until it can (this is the most common instance and exactly what @LibertyMachine is referring to).

Also I noticed you're using Tool Orientation. Don't do this without a 4th/5th axis rotary setup. If you have one, awesome! If not, this is just going to cause headaches down the line when you try and post process your Setup and the post fails because it is not set up to use Tool Orientation. Make sure your Setup reflects how it will be at the machine.

I have attached a copy of the current file -

As I was getting nowhere yesterday with the Adaptive Clearing of these slots, I chose to use the Contour function.  That did create a tool path and looked like it would work when I ran the Simulation.  Then off to the shop to cut a total of four parts, 2 of these and 2 others.

Because of clamping and fixture issues, I wanted to cut the two smaller slots first and use those to bolt through to the router table to hold the work piece while cutting the larger hole for the bearing and the adaptive / profile cuts for exterior edge. The first time I ran this it was working as expected, cutting the slot with a /8" single flute end mill until the mill snapped at the collet.  I had more end mills, and quickly slipped another into the router and reran the program.

Except the program is now starting to run the bit only part of the way to the top surface - stopping about .10 above the top surface.  It runs into the cut hole, but only part of the way before moving to the next one.

Machine - XCarve 1,000mm.  Creating G-Code through Fusion and then the g-code through the Easel application.

I have been up working on this all night - and am bushed.  What I figured would take a few hours became an all nighter - and I still don't have two of the parts needed for the build tonight.

All of your toolpaths look good. Did you re-zero the tool offset when you replaced the broken bit? There's nothing in the programming that should prevent it from working properly, especially if it ran as expected initially (barring the breakage of course).

Sure did. But now every program is running too high to cut - or only
getting partial cuts.

Hello,

I am running into the same issue. I have attached the project. I am new to CAD/CAM SW but starting to pick it up!!!!!!!!!! I have made 2 setup's one to etch out the pattern and then when that is finished I want to cut out the pattern using the outer most circle. IT's etching fine but I get error messages when trying to cut out the pattern. Thanks for any advice that you can offer!!!!!

Hi!

If you put 0.08 in helical rampdiameter in the linking tab it works for me at least.

Hello,

Thanks for the help! I unfortunately do not see the setting that you mentioned. Below is a screen shot of the settings I see in the linking tab.

I was getting this warning as well. When trying to use a 3D adaptive tool path. It ended up being because I had forgot to select the model in the setup. Once selected it worked fine.

Im having the same issue.  In contour and bore it recognizes tool paths.  In Clearing it say there are none.  I just the same slots in another peice of same stock/ tool with no issue.  I can't export as f3d.  Only lets f3z.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Please share the .f3z file here, then 🙂

File > Export > Save to local folder, return to thread and attach the .f3d/.f3z file in your reply

Oh, btw, this thread is 5 years old 😉
