Two questions from CAM noob -- "get latest" and editing machine

I have just started working with the CAM capability of Fusion again, after trying it out briefly years ago. It seemed pretty intuitive then, not so much now, but anyway:

1.   I have been trying to get a simple part through Setup, and I always seem to end up with the annoying yellow triangle at the top of the Manufacture browser tree that indicates "Get Latest in Design workspace". When I look at the body version a few lines down in the browser, it is the latest. The top of the tree is the latest. But it still says "Get latest". What am I doing wrong?

2.   I am selecting a generic Autodesk 3-axis mill, XY on table, Z on head. It seems to get put into the CAM graphic with the X and Y axes reversed from "normal", and different from the origin info that the model is carrying when the two are displayed together. I can't figure out the mechanics of switching the axes in the Machine Library, or how to save an eddited machine model to the Machine Library.

I'm planning to run some test parts on my Tree J325 mill (Dynapath Delta 20) and this part is just a standard square-circle-triangle test plate to check the axis motion and accuracy, so nothing too complex. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks --

The get latest can refer to the Machine you have selected also, but its not very intuitive.

if the machine is out of date, even if its not selected in a setup you will get the yellow triangle.

I honestly would not select a machine at all for basic 3 axis work. there really is no point.(you dont actually need a machine selected).

I only select a machine when i'm doing multi axis machining(4/5 axis)

Thanks for the input. I'm still wondering about a couple of things, even though you are downplaying the need for actually selecting a machine (I assume because most post-processors will end up with the same code output for basic operations?).

As noted, will I be able to generate G-code without having selected a machine?

A new question: Where will I find post-processor selections? I looked at one link appearing during the Setup process while I was trying to figure out next steps, and the link seemed to go to an empty library.

And is there a known reason that the machine selection would not update, and leave me with "Get latest" instruction, even if I am using a machine selection directly from Autodesk machine library? Or is there some other issue causing this notification at the top level of the browser tree? This seems like a bug, perhaps an unimportant one to the experienced users, but certainly a point of my confusion. This entire process is new to me, so I don't have a handle yet on what I should see. My most recent programming work is on this Tree mill using the Dynapath control and programming at the machine (conversational, event-driven). Thanks for any info --

Hi,

yes you are correct, you don't need a machine selected to post process and generate code.

you find the post processors in the Fusion360 library

to update the machine you need to right click on the machine under the setup

then once its updated the yellow triangle will go away (but only if you mouse over it, which to me IS a bug)

this is all not really clear because Fusion is telling to to go to design to update but you need to Update the machine which is confusing as hell.

But like i say you don't need a machine selected for 3 axis milling, in fact I recommend you don't use one as it creates more hassle than its worth.

Maybe check out some of these videos on the self paced learning to get you going:
