Tutorial trouble

I've just begun the tutorial for using the CAM side of Autodesk Fusion, and I'm already experiencing issues. I've followed the instructions to the letter, but I'm getting an exaggerated lead in on the slotting operation. I've tried reconfiguring the operation with mixed results, none of which look like the sample in the demonstration. Here is what my toolpath currently looks like:

Tutorial slotting lead in.jpg

As you can see, the lead in is enormous and does not match what the demonstration window shows. I know it's not a big deal for the sake of the tutorial, but there is no way I want a lead in like that when I start using this software to program a machine.

Thanks,

Tanner

Mark,

Thanks.  Just to try and make sure it isn't totally a sketch issue, I went back to Inventor HSM and created a solid disk with one slot and then patterned the slot feature...actually came out worse - long ramps on all slots.

Reason for going to Inventor is to see if the problem crosses apps. If so, could be a problem common the HSM code that underlies all the programs beyond the sketch bug(s) you're finding in Fusion.

Fred

PS We've done a lot of slotting involving straight slots and have not seen this issue. If I have time will create some random arc slots to see what happens.

I just redrew my self and had the same problem. If I make the slot like this it works.

Trimming the 20mm small circles causes all the problems. Here what I get using the sketch above.

Mark,

Interesting...

I posted something on the Autodesk CAM forum about this, All the slots I have created have been with the slot drawing options in Inventor (pick ends of slot, then create slot width). When I create multiple straight slots, no problem. But when I create curved slots it becomes problematic. Am going to go back and see if adding constraints helps.

Thanks for the usual thorough inventigation. And congrats on your recognition at AU.

Thanks Fred, it just an acquisitive mind, got to know why.

Attached is a file with 2 version of slot, one done with trimmed arcs one with full circles at the ends. The blue one is the trimmed version and doesn't work with the slot op, the red one done the other way works fine. I've put this in the design section just in case it's a modeling problem.

I have reported this on ticket CAM-3104. There are two things you can do as a workaround. Do a separate operation for each arced slot, or cut one and use a circular pattern to get the rest.
