unsure why I'm getting this error for engraving. Why wont this application go more in-depth with the tool selection error? Very broad statement as tool path and tool its shelf are different.

The error message is pretty clear IMHO, it is telling you that you are trying to use the wrong type of tool for Engraving.

 

If you are doing actual engraving where you want to have the tool lift up in the corners to create sharp corners instead if just following a line and having rounded ends of the Radius of the tool used then you must use a pointed (V) tool of some description (Engrave/Chamfer/Spot Drill) in order to get Fusion to generate the correct toolpath.

 

If you just want to follow lines/arcs then you would use the "2D Trace" toolpath which will allow you to use more tools. See image below and attached example file, the 1 on the face is done with proper engraving using a two line Font (Arial) and a V tool, the 6 is a 2D Trace using a V tool on the same Font, the 3 is a 2D Trace using a V tool on a Single line Font (Iso.shx) and the 9 again using the two line Font and a small Flat End Mill.

 

So, summary, decide what is it you want to do at the start, Engraving then it has to be a V type tool, if it is just cutting lines following a shape where you don`t want the sharp V type corners as in the 1 toolpath then you can use Flat End Mills etc.
