Hello,

Just started to program these parts here at work. Just started this position, and they set me up with Fusion 360 when im more used to using HSM Express with Inventor. Already did a 2d contour of the part with a sketch that's constrained to the model. It's a really complex part. Chose the top face for a 2D Adaptive clearing op, and when the face itself is selected, it automatically chains an invisible edge within the part model. My question is, is this something we can fix by modifying the solid part, or is it a setting that I can adjust?

Best Regards,

Marco Pelayo

I thought I would take a stab at solving your issue, so I opened up your .stp file. And.....I've got no idea what surface you had issues with.

Could you export and share you Fusion file? To do so: File > Export > Save to local folder. Return to this thread and attach the .f3d in your next reply.

Hi Gearsoup,

Thanks for the reply, I did think of that when I left home. I'll do that once I get in to work tomorrow. Just in case you're curious though, I was trying to 2d adaptive clear the backside face, the opposite side that has that boss sticking out. It's the largest flat feature of the part.

Kind regards

The nice thing about Fusion is that you can have the software installed on multiple computers that you use. Login with the same name and password and your stuff is right there. It's such a valuable feature for the programmer that's on the go. Not advising you to take your work home with you on the weekends, but in examples like this, it would be super handy

While waiting to hear back from you as to what exactly you are running into, I played around with it a bit, using the clues you provided. I see the issue you are referring to and I suspect this is a bug, and it's been encountered in the not too distant past. The solution is to select the top edge of each boss and that will allow it to calculate properly.

On that note: 2D adaptive does have it's place. However, 3D Adaptive has so much more control and "awareness". 2D adaptive is not "model aware". It will cut whatever you tell it to cut, with no regard for that nub sticking up on the end that you forgot to program around. It will cut right through it.

3D adaptive is model aware and quite often, doesn't even require geometry selection. Simply defining height you want to cut to will be enough.

I tossed a few tool paths onto your part for you to look at. Speeds, feeds and depth/width of cut are bogus numbers.

Bug in question: Selecting the face for adaptive cut yields this selection

@LibertyMachine that's where sticking the bottom height plane on top of the part can help if there is a bad bug in the model it will fail hard, if not it works quite well, it's a handy bug finding thing to do.
