Tool plunges in part.

I am trying to learn by generating examples. I created the attached CAD. When I try to mill simulate it, the tool plunges into the part. I adjusted heights and even started with a taller blank. What am I missing?

I am not sure how I would fix the toolpaths you chose. However one of the toolpaths I would choose would be a ramp toolpath. I have added it to your file on how I would do it. I order bottom up so it doesnt plunge into the material. Hope this helps.

At least for the [Radial] toolpath you would want to pick [Link from Inside to Outside]. This starts at the inside point of the radius as the first and highest move. This is based on the slope, as you have a downward sloping part.  If you had an upward sloping outside part you would want it to be as is, where it would start on the outside and machine down/inward.

OK, my 2 cents worth for a simple approach to the project 🙂

 

1) Face down to the top of the Model

2) Rough out the two ends using the 3D Adaptive toolpath, it is a 3D part.

3) Finish off with a 3D finishing toolpath, the "Blend" suits the finishing of the shape well and is easy to set up.

The Feeds/Speeds/Stepovers/Stepdowns etc are all roughly set, if you want to "fine tune" it feel free 🙂
