Tool Orientation Help on 4th Axis Machine

I'm programming a part on a tombstone for a 2013 HAAS EC400 that is new to me. I want to drill and tap two holes on the side of the part but having trouble. I have the WCS on the part itself (not center of the tombstone rotation) and then using tool orientation to rotate the tombstone/part to get to the side holes. When i run the program on the machine the tombstone (A-Axis) will rotate correctly but the hole locations are off. It seems the machine is trying to locate the holes off of the WCS before it rotates. Am i using tool orientation correctly? Does the WCS have to be on the center of the tombstone rotation? Hope this makes sense. Thanks for the help.

Hi

Unless you have Dynamic Work offsets (G254) you will need to set your WCS at the center of rotation for this to work.

An alternative method is to Use Multiple WCS locations for each orientation and probe the part in each orientation to establish each WCS

You can either do multiple setups in different orientations or use Tool orientation with in a Folder that has the WCS override on.

With multiple setups the WCS can be wherever you would like

With the folder method the WCS needs to be in the same location on the part .

If you can share your Part here we can demonstrate the different methods

Goto File>Export>Save as .f3d/.f3z  (.f3z may need to be zipped to upload to the Forum)

Thanks for the quick response! That is what i figured. Attached is the .f3d file...if you can demonstrate the different methods that would be great.
