Tool Library requests

Is there a way to make copies of tools, I need to set up several boring bars that are basically the same just different diameters and different relief angles. It would be a lot quicker to set them up if I could make 6 copies then make one or two adjustments instead of having to start from scratch each time.

While setting up my lathe library I thought I could use the Sample Turning Tools library to save some time but there doesn't seem to be a way to copy and paste libraries between Samples and cloud for example.

The edit mill tool needs updating now there are lathe tools in the library.

Hi there -

You can copy tools from one library to another by dragging it from the list view on top of a library node in the list on the left-hand side.

You can copy to any writable library, including the Cloud libraries.

I don't think there's a way to just copy/paste a given tool within a given library.

That would be a nice request on IdeaStation.

Good point about the Edit Tool button caption. Thanks for pointing that out.

IIRC, the round about way to copy a tool is to edit the tool you want to copy, close it, then create a new tool where you want it and it will open up with the last tool's settings.

There should be an easy way to duplicate a tool.  In HSMWorks it is very simple ctrl+d

Hopefully something like that will get added.

I was going to suggest an easy way to make copies is to use the tool you want a copy of so it's in a document library then copy it back to the cloud library. The libraries don't seem to mind if you have several identical tools.

Only problem was the first time I tried it out I copied a boring bar back to my cloud library twice and when I went back to the cloud library all I had were the 2 copies and all my other tools had been deleted for some reason!. Luckily I had the deleted tools in other documents and just copied them back so I don't know what went wrong coping the boring bars.

Hi Mark,

Sorry for the late reply.

The problem with drag and dropping tools to a not yet initialized/activated tool library (CAM-2363) has been fixed and should be coming in an update soon.

Your other issue with the layout of the tool library manager being broken has received CAM-2395, but it should really only be a problem until you resize the window.

Kind regards,

Peter

I will second the motion to be ale to copy a tool within the same library. Would save some key strokes on entering repetitive information.
