Tool Change G28 U0. / U0. W0.

Hi All

 

On our Gildemiester CTX-410 (2005) we do not need to home the machine during a power up and it seems that the home position is behind the chuck.

So the G28 command is a really bad idea, the fanuc lathe post uses the G28 because there is a no machine configuration settings. (Its my understanding that Fusion 360 does not support this yet)

My question is what is the best method for fixing this ?

I have adjusted the post all ready to add some extra 'properties' which I can edit with in Fusion 360. These give safe machine absolute positions for the tool change.

 

This seems like a kludge but at least the output now works.

 

The best method would be to calcualte a safe location at each tool change but I think the information for this is missing from the data availble to Fusion 360.

Thanks for posting this!

Seems like a okay edit to me. reading through that thread the G53 seemed like a good option (like you used), but G28 U6.0 W0. is also a good suggestion.

As far as calculating a safe location, inside your operations you should have something called a "retract height"

The retract height is where the tool will start and end the operation. So if you set that to be higher off your part, that should serve as a good safety. Then you could just retract in the Z direction.

In the end, the best method to fix it is the one that works for you. Just test first, making sure everyone moves as you expect and you should be good.

I've not been able to find with in the Fusion 360 GUI a settings called "retract height", where would I find this and how then would I reference it in the POST ?

 

It still seem to me that on the CTX410 that the G28 is behind the chuck so it will clash.

You shouldn't have to change anything for that. You can change that value and simulate the toolpath and you'll see the clearance. Though that leaves it on you not to forget about changing that, so I would stick to the G53 implementation you did.

 

I think what you did is a the best option. I was just mentioning that as a way to give yourself some more clearance.
