Tailstock

Hello,

I have the option to use the tailstock for turning operation, but if i have to do a milling operation, it doesn´t have this options. Consequently the postprocessor removes the tailstock.

HI @Raul.AlvesQ73LG ,

 

While using a milling toolpath, You can control the Tailstock code by adding Condition in Post processor. It depends on your requirement. 

 

For Example, if the current operation is milling and previous operation was turning with tailstock ...then Tailstock On  code should come.

Hi Krupa



It is a solution for this problem, but if i have a moment there i need to remove the tailstock to milling, i will have the same problem.

The solution there i need, it's control this option before the postprocess

Hi @Raul.AlvesQ73LG ,

 

Currently, we don't have use Tailstock option in milling strategy.

 

I said in my previous post, we can control the code through condition. Or you can use Manual NC to get the desired code in required toolpath.

Old post but arrived here through the search.

 

Crazy this isn't a feature nearly 5 years later.

 

Nonetheless, there are a few workarounds

  • adding it to the post properties with "operation" as the scope. The problem with this is that it requires a machine definition. For a machine that requires extra features like this, it's rare one already exists. Building that out is time consuming. Also, then the checkbox exists in two different places for turning and milling. 👎
  • parsing the operations notes for something like "Tailstock ON" / "Tailstock OFF". Obviously the problem with this is it's a manual user input, only slightly better than the 3rd option. No machine definition required but still exists in two different places for turning and milling. 👎👎
  • Manual NC Passthrough like it's 2017 👎👎👎

All of these are frustrating for me because the check box is already there for turning. It's so close!!!! The check box should definitely be there for at least all of the rotary tool paths by now.

 

Any other workarounds would be greatly appreciated, figuring out how I'm going to get this going on a mill-turn now.
