Swarf repositions with small rapid steps

Not sure if its a setting I missed but I feel like this reposition move would be a smooth TCPC move instead of tiny rapids.

Does your machine have a Look ahead option, and is it turned on during that period?

Yeah, Its a NGC VF4SS with DWO, TCPC, and look ahead should be active. I feel like with TCPC it should just be one smooth move. It looks like TCPC stays active the whole time. Unfortunately I can't share the file.

I'm not a Haas or 5th axis guy (I really need to solve for the latter), but I'd expect to see at least a G103 command🤔

Why would you want to block look ahead? G103 on haas blocks look ahead.

Sorry, a G103 Pxx. Doesn't that put it into "look-ahead" mode so it buffers the rapid and feedmoves appropriately? I'm just spitballin here, as I have no hands-on experience with the Haas trunnions

Ah okay, for Haas 80 block look-ahead is always on. You use G103Px to either limit it to less blocks or turn it off. Otherwise its always active.

Do you think its because I have preserve rapid on? Should I change that to Always Use High Feed? I'll have to give that a try after my current part is done.

Hi @Mattxer 

I've noticed with our Haas that when doing G0 moves it will "stop" at each commanded position. For example if you did 

 

G0 X0.

X50. 

X100.

X150.

This will not be a smooth movement but by using G1 it would be smooth all the way through those commanded points. Looks like you've figured this out already but thought I'd share my experience.

Yeah, I switched from Preserve rapid to Always use high feed for that particular toolpath.
