Strange parallel depth behavior

The attached file will show you the lead in of the parallel is going to depth, but for some reason makes a vertical move and then just skims the top surface. I'm baffled. Thank you.

First set the bottom height to model top zero offset,

then uncheck contact only and tool set outside and may be a small additional offset.

@HughesTooling

Thanks for the reply....

I'm trying to cut into the material with the parallel path. You suggested setting the bottom for the parallel operation to the model top surface????   Maybe I'm misreading your suggestion, but that doesn't cut the material.  I'll be honest, I've played with settings for 20 minutes.....and I can't avoid this behaviour. Even in your simple suggestions the toolpath is not cutting material.

Attached is the original file im having trouble with.

You'll need to set the axial stock to leave to a minus number, the 3d toolpaths will not cut into the model other than setting minus stock to leave sizes. If you wanted to take 0.1 off the top a better way would be to offset your stock top by 0.1.

I'm 100% not arguing with you....but are you saying I need to manipulate things to get a simple parallel path to work on the Z height?  My settings seem correct. I have no problem weaving when a gust hits but I need to know if the software agrees with that.

I played with axial stock to leave and that didn't help. There seems to be something wrong with the parallel height tool path. I can easily just sketch out some toolpaths, but that is what the parallel is for no?

The whole idea is you model what you want to cut, you generally do not want to cut into the model.

If you setup like this with stock above the part then set the Origin to Stock Point and pick the corner of the stock box there will 0.025 to take off. You already set the stock top offset to 0.025 `but your origin was model top not stock top, so nothing to remove.

See attached file. I set the facing op to leave 0.005 so the parallel will take the last 0.005.

Mark,

Thanks, I'm a complete idiot. I'm not sure what I was doing. Sorry to have wasted your time on this issue.
