Slicing a 3d model for CNC Routing

Hi all -

Noobie to Fusion here, and trying to learn the software for creating items to use for CNC Routing. What I am trying to do is take a 3d STL of an automobile, import it into Fusion or Fusion Slicer and slice the model from front to back in lets say 1/2 inch slices so when so laying the individual parts down on their sides to CNC can be reassembled. I am enclosing a glue up of a 2D model I created via vectors but would like to see if I can slice up a 3d model and also bring in the 2D models and add 1/2 or 3/4 inch depth to the pieces.

Thanks up front for any insight into this.

Have you tried Slicer for Fusion? If I recall, it should do what you are looking for

Thanks for the response, I have looked at Slicer and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to slice the way the photos show. I have looked thru numerous videos and read thru documentation, but I can not see how this can be accomplished.

Do you have a model that you can share with is so we can see what the results are?

Seth -

I have enclosed a sample STL that I have been playing with in slicer and see no way to get the rotation to slice the way I have cut the car in the photos I included..... that is pretty much on the Y axis. Am I missing something?

Thanks

I'll be completely honest, this is the second time I've ever played with Slicer. Is this what you are looking for?

Things I did: When I imported it, I did make sure that "UP" was considered the Z axis. Not sure if that matters

After the import, I just select this button:

And pulled the direction this a-way:

That is what I was trying to do...... geez sounds and looks too simple, I must be thick in the head to not figure that out. I just started with Fusion and saw Slicer decide to give it a go.

Thanks much for pointing me in the right direction.

Seth -

One last question, I don't see anywhere in Slicer to adjust the sizing of the slices (like to make them 1/2 slices, etc.) if I import these into Fusion 360 would you think the slices can get adjusted in size. Just curious, as I said just getting started with these 2 programs.

Thanks again,

On the left side of the screen, click on the little gear I've highlighted:

Now at the bottom of your screen you will have a new panel. This is for your material setup. What size plywood are you using? Enter it here.

Now, you will likely want to play with the actual scale of your car. Right now it thinks the car is 8" long, 2" wide. You will likely want to scale it up to a size that you want. That can also be done from the left bar, in fact you will see the fields in the top image above

Seth, Thank you very much.....

I thought you had to create a custom setting and every-time I did nothing happened.

Thanks for all the help
