I'm having trouble mirroring in sketches too.
Mirror keeps waiting for me to add more items to the selection, and I can't figure out how to get it to let me select the mirroring line.
How does one end the selecting-items phase?
This used to work for me somehow, I must have some setting wrong...

Simply click on the "Select Mirror Line"
Aha, that's what was missing.
The whole dialog was not visible, perhaps hidden behind the constraints palette.
Whenever I selected a thing to mirror, the little popup clue telling me that's what I was doing, said to select something to mirror.
Without the dialog, I couldn't proceed.
