Shared tool library between users

This has been discussed a while ago but there appeared to be no solution. Maybe there is now.

We have 2 Fusion 360 users with different login details. We want 1 common CAM tool library as we share a milling machine.

I have activated Cloud libraries for both users.

I have imported the same tool library into the cloud section for both users. The import was off our shared server.

User 1 creates a new tool in the library. This new tool is not seen by user 2. I have tried closing F360 and opening again, but no joy.

Where am I going wrong?

You might want to take a look at this thread:

Kind regards,

Thanks Peter. I will see if sharing the folder makes it work.

Hi Peter,

Maybe you can help me a little more.

I have been into my A360 drive and found the CAMTools folder. In there is a tool library (*.tools) that I would like to be the common shared item.

I have shared the folder with my colleague (with full access) . He is able to see it when in A360, but it does not appear in his Cloud option when you select the tool library in F360.

I'm sure we are close to getting it working, but what am I missing?

That is not what's suggested in the link above, what they've done is make a project in Fusion and created empty designs that only contain tools. Then all you'd do is open one of the designs and select tools from it.

Here you can see I have 2 designs open and the tools show at the top of the tool library.

So what you need to do is this.

1 Create a project in Fusion's data panel and share it with the other users.

2 Create Documents\Designs that contain only tools.

3 When you need the tool in another design just open one of the designs from the shared folder and it's tools will be available in the tool manager.

Another tip for moving tools between designs and libraries, you can select multiple tools and drag between documents\libraries.

Just Shift or Ctrl select like in file manager then drag to your document.

Hi,

I thought "For now you can use a "Team Hub" to share libraries among a group of people working for the same company or on the same project." meant to do what I had tried.

I thought what you suggest is classed as a "work around" buy the poster.

Not something I've tried but it sounds like you can share a library with someone but they just copy it to there CAMTool folder and it is not synchronized. The workaround is synchronized and for now is a better way of doing it.

I've solved it.

Generate a new tool library under the Cloud section.

In the Camtools folder on A360 drive a *.json file is created (not a *.tools file).

I have shared this folder with my work colleague. I have given him full control.

So if I create a tool it appears in his Cloud library now, and if he creates on it appears in mine.

It appears that using a *.tools file was the issue.
