Problems with multi-axis contour

Hey everyone,

I am trying to program a simple straight cut that transitions into a wrapped helix (see picture below) on a 4-axis lathe. Multi-axis contour does a fine job on the helix portion but fails miserably on the straight section and initial curve. Ideally I would like it to all be cut in a single operation.

Does anyone have any tricks for getting this to work?

I was thinking if I could project the centerline of the path onto the bottom of the radius (similar to the curve I have selected for the helixed portion, it should work. However, I do not know how to do that. I have also attached a copy of the file.

I massaged it into compliance as best as I could, there is a small misalignment at intersection of spiral and curved groove on model so I think I found best compromise.

One correction, I am not disputing fact that multi axis strategy is not working, I was just looking for way to get result using another approach.

have you tried 4th axis wrapping a 2d contour?

No I haven't, I run lathes and mill-turns as primary equipment so my interest is always in that area first.

I assume if you set the part as milling job you would end up with A axis replacing C axis as the only deference in outcome.

Yeah, I am goofing with things I don't normally do, just to gain skills. I think I had X and Y axis pointing the wrong way after conversion from mill-turn to 4th axis mill.

I think new file is correct, check it out, let me know.
