Post Processor editing.....not as easy as I thought.

It seems as though I was highly unrealistic in my assumptions as to editing a  pre-existing post. Looking back now I don't know what I "thought" it was going to look like; I only know it's significantly removed from my level of focus and patience. This, to some, may sound just plain lazy, and I get that. As in a small business often the laws of physics don't seem to apply. More often than not, s#i+ flows up hill. Were it merely a matter of want that would impede my attempt; I feel like I could muster the fortitude to carry through. That just isn't the case for many; myself included.

 Would it be possible to provide sample code; both edited and as posted, to someone/service and just pay them to edit the post in question? It seems as though I am utilizing Fusion-360 more and more often, simply for the HSM function. As a Mazak shop (based on the brunt of simplistic part geometry we encounter) programming a part in Fusion-360 is NEVER (and I do mean NEVER) even close to the speed with which we can be producing parts by programming at the control in Mazatrol. Often, the Fusion-360 program will "win out" with the amortization of the programming/setup time figured into the part quantity but more often than not; it won't. This, I realize, is simply due to the type of work that we are generally tasked.

 With that said, a significant contributing factor to this being; the a$$loads of editing required to produce a program that will run (at all, let alone safely, or in the manner we'd prefer) in some of our older Mitsubishi "Meldas" powered Mazak "Mazatrol M32's and M-Plus." No, I can't afford to replace the older controls with the new SMOOTH controlled Mazatrol machines just so we could completely eliminate offline/CAM programming all together........I'm hoping I can afford to have a few posts edited though.

 Can anyone recommend a particular company, service provider, or individual that does this sort of thing "on the side" that is reputable and reasonably priced? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It would be nice to see what you are really after in a customized post, but judging from the other thread, some things I notice is that you really have to watch f360 and its cam smoothing to prevent lots of segments in some operations.

 

Whoever you get really needs to understand your control, preferably having used one.

 

You could also post an example and output of what you aren't liking about the current post and some could help you here.

 

Its all javascript, a decent programmer should be able to do it, with the caveat that he understands what a machine crash is/costs.

Very good point; I know what you mean regarding the short line segments and ENORMOUS file sizes generated by most CAM systems utilizing controlled engagement angles. I do not see myself as being terribly bright but, it would seem like there would be a more logical way for CAM systems to create simple arcs (basic 2.5D tool paths) by implementing G02/G03 functions whenever possible; often many lines of code to generate a single arc segment. When roughing, I've tried using gross deviation parameters in effort to cut down on excessive code, with less than expected results. This is not to say this phenomenon is unique to Fusion-360; it seems to be an industry "method" at this point.

 Is it simply a matter of computing power, a matter of the software having to be so "universal" in it's approach to be viable in the market place, or is there something I'm TOTALLY missing here? I apologize for my naivety on the topic; just to curious to care.

 

I'll reply later with a sample of code, both edited and "as posted." Any opinions would be appreciated.

Yes, I hand edited it; I'll reply shortly with a brief "play by play" of the edit and reasoning behind it. On another note; I took a little time last night and started playing with the edit of my current post (Generic Mitsubishi Meldas) in Notepad++ last night with some success! The "G28" at the head of the program that needed to be a "G30" was successfully altered. When I attempted to add the required "X0" "Y0" to accompany the "Z0" for tool change; not so successful. I'll have to figure out how to add those two things to that line of code next; it's probably not a bad idea to learn this anyway. At almost 47 years old, that old phrase regarding old dogs and new tricks, is starting to hit home a bit, LoL. Thank you to all that have read this post and refrained from pointing out how dim witted it must surely appear that I am.

The attached file is the Meldas.cps post that I currently use, as provided by Autodesk. This is also the file I am attempting to edit. The Mazak MTV-414/22 with Mazatrol M-32 (Mitsubishi Meldas M-335) controller's ISO/EIA programs typically look something like this.

The only time I use the G91 is where the machinetool requires it for tool changes and end of program, to place the headstock away from the operator and the workpiece as close to the operator; other than that I have no use for it

Ok, that got a large part of my needs met. How would I go about moving the "coolant on" function to the first line after the G43 (tool length offset) line of the program? How about moving the spindle speed and spindle on function to the end of the first line of X-axis and Y-axis positioning?

Just be sure that the program is re setting G90/G91.

 

That one is a bit harder, as you would have to move that code into OnSection.  Why can't it just be at the end, just prior to movement?

Honestly, it can, I just wanted to be posting as "polite" of code possible; remember we're a Mazak shop and thus, a bit "spoiled." The idea of placing the "coolant" on function after the initial Z-axis positioning was an effort to not have the coolant on with the Z-axis at it's upper limit. When my guys are doing their "run off" of the first in a given operation, they are allowed to have the doors open (with rapid override as low as possible, and a Z-axis positive offset above any cutting position, of course) to better view what's actually taking place. With the infrequent use of EIA/ISO code around here (they Mazatrol everything they possibly can), it's easy to forget that "Coolant OFF" button on the operators panel; resulting in a face full of coolant as well as all over the floor before you can get to the "Coolant OFF" button for some relief.

 Yes, I know how petty and silly this must sound but, I'd be a little pissed at the guy that handed me code that coated me with coolant while trying to set the job up. "Just always remember to make SURE the "Coolant OFF" lamp is lit before smashing that Cycle Start button"........yeah, I've said it plenty of times having felt no better about the situation; regardless of who's truly "at fault."

Sorry for rambling, and I do TRULY appreciate your attempts at helping my "Java Script illiterate ass" as much as you have thus far.
