Outside Corner Mode

Is there a way to have the "Roll around Corners" mode available for Contours under 3d machining? Contours under 3d machining allows us to automatically get contours on all of our parts on a nested sheet without selecting the individual contours, but it doesn't seem to have the "Roll around Corner" mode. The 2d Contour does have roll and around corners, but it forces us to select each individual contour on each sheet.

 

Any suggestions?

Hi @chrisCFHNJ 

The reason for the difference in behavior is that while 3D contour is model-aware, the equivalent 2D toolpath isn't. That's why you need to select each contour manually, otherwise Fusion wouldn't know what to machine as 2D contour can't "see" the things you don't select.

In terms of having the Outer Corner Mode option available for 3D Contour too, I suspect there would be some intricacies that prevent us from adding it (like I said, there are big differences between how Fusion computes a 2D and a 3D toolpath). However I'll investigate whether it could be a possible future implementation with our development team.

I thought this would be the behaviour for 3D contour. I made a test part and to me it looks like it rolls around the corner (at least on a square part). Is this not quite what you're looking for?

Right, the fusion 360 path shows the toolpath doing exactly what we want. However, once we post out to gcode, if we don't have the "roll around corners" on, it doesn't call for arcs, and the CNC basically has to stop at the corners. That really won't work for us in production.

With 3d Contour, it doesn't call for arcs unless the part actually has an arc on it. So it doesn't seem to be using the "roll around part" option when it posts out to gcode.

How about if you turn smoothing on under the passes tab?

 

For a simple square that fixes it for me (I'm not sure what sort of profiles you have).  By turning on toolpath points at the bottom Fusion will show you each point of the toolpath which should correspond the what is outputted in each line of Gcode.
