need a simple tool path to knock out the center

simply looking for a simple tool path to knock out the slot in the middle. thing is nothing seems to do it! Would really like to just use "2D contour" with tabs and all,  but it always wants to go around the outside of the complete model instead of just up and down the slot, which I will have clamps there.  Everything I try has some issue or another. Why can't I just have the bit come down one side and back up the other and be done?  What am I missing?  I can't find a setting that will allow it. Seems it should be rather basic?  Has to be some setting I'm missing?

Press the ALT key and select your chain. Press it again, this opens a small UI, add onto the chain and click the green "+".
