Multi-Axis Finishing some Questions

Hi all!

I play around with the Multi-Axis Finishing operation with "Circle segment taper" tool.

I try a very simple model and can't get a toolpath that make sense!

1. I setup a stepdown with 7mm. As you can see Step down is good with 7mm, but the first step down is something, yeah I would say stupid.

Fun fact! If I change stepdown to 0.5mm ... more stupid...

2. then the way in which the toolpath is created. In the tooltip the toolpaths are nicely down to the floor

But the toolpath that was created is completely unsatisfactory

How you can see in the next picture (it shows the last cut), the toolpath is absolutly confusing!

- The pathes are nonsensical

- The wall is not processed to the possible depth

I assume that the fault is in front of the PC, which is always a good starting point!
Whatever I've tried so far, I can't get the toolpath any further to the floor or a nice simple toolpath!

And one more hint. I am aware that it could be done differently, but that is not the issue here. I'm only interested in the operaion itself!

I look forward to your tips on what I am doing wrong!

Hi

See Video for explanation, that may shed some light on the behavior you are seeing

Hey thx for the answer and nice workaround!
But in result:
1. The Operation is useless for Circular Taper Tool... hmmmm ...

If I setup a tool like this:

That contradicts itself. I find that very strange!

2. That your choice of tool gets down to the floor is nice!
But I think the result of surface would be better with a Circular taper tool, because the Radius is most time much bigger, at my tool it is R1000!

Ok I will wait if others have some genius ideas! 😉

Hi

I realise now what the issue with the Taper form not going to the bottom is

it is the shaft clearance value.

Default it is 1mm and this is preventing the tool from going lower.

Change it to like 0.1mm and it now works

The Notification in the tool Library isn't contradictory, its simply telling the user that this tool type can only be used in the Multi axis Finishing Toolpath.

Currently no other toolpaths support the use of Circle segment tools

Hey perfect!

I thought I had tried that, but I must have got away with it!

Now I'm going to keep trying it out!
