I am threading with a tap on the outside diameter of a workpiece on my haas st20y.

after this i want to grab the part with the sub and move it back (no parting job)

but the tap just moves in X and then the grab job starts,

how do i move the tool a bit in Z before the grab operation because i just broke a tap 🙂

The tap isn't going to machine home when completed?

Would you be able to share your Fusion file here?
File > Export > Save to local folder, return to thread and attach the .f3d/.f3z file in your reply.

So, looking at the code, it's posting out a G53 Y0 and  G53 X0. If you had a G53 Z0, that would be sufficient?

If so, this looks like a simple edit. At line 2872, change the "false" to "true":

  writeRetract(currentSection, false); // no retract in Z

Becomes:

   writeRetract(currentSection, true); // no retract in Z

Result:

G196 X2.8755 Z-0.315 F0.0276
G80
G0 X4.7244
M135
M155

(Subspindle Grab1)
M89
G53 Y0.
G53 X0.
G53 Z0. <---- added G53 Z0 move
G54
G98
S500 M4
P500 M143
G199 R0. (SPINDLE SYNCHRONIZATION ON)
M12 (MAINSPINDLE AIR BLAST ON)
M112 (SUBSPINDLE AIR BLAST ON)
M111 (UNCLAMP SECONDARY CHUCK)
G4 P1000

However, it was set to "false" for a reason. I'll double check with the post team to see why. Use the above modification at your own risk, running slowly to confirm expected behavior!!!

You can open it up in a text editor and then save it to your desktop and then upload it to your Cloud or Local post library.

If you don't feel comfortable editing the post (it is super easy, though), you can just use the attached post 🙂

I understand 🙂 but what if it updates? Then this is lost? It updates without any warning. 🙂

Please click "Accept Solution" if what I wrote solved your issue!

If you're pointing to a local folder on your computer, it's insulated from automatic updates.
