Milling a fillet

Im trying to make a nice fillet around my part, but I can't make it to work as I would like it to. 

The tool wants to get into every cavity, is there any way to tell it to ignore this ?

You may need to patch it to get exactly what you want.

fillet2.jpg hm, tried to use the patch function... It's better but not really how I would like it.

Did you design the part in Fusion, if you did make a copy of the component and remove the slots and use that copy for machining. If it's an import again make a copy and try push\pull on the virtical faces and see if you can remove the slots that way. If you're stuck from the File menu select Export and save as an f3d file and upload to this thread.

It's a imported part from solidworks. 

The push/pull function worked, it's there any way to set this pushed part as a feature so I can disable it later on or should I make a duplicate and make two different setups?

In model space use copy and paste new to get a separate copy. In the CAM workspace on the fillet op you could try selecting the copy under Model on the geometry tab, not sure how that will work but I think it should.

You can extrude the surface and chose "New Body" for the "Operation" parameter. This will extrude a vertical wall at the side, so you then have to go in and apply a fillet to match the original fillet, but you will have a seperate solid object that matches up perfectly when you are done. If you have some sort of weird fillet profile, this method wouldn't work out, but it appears its a run of the mill roundover, so should work fine.

I was more addressing the question of making each "repair" section a feature that can be turned on and off. Either way seems to take about the same amount of time, so it's then a matter of do you want a single object with a contiguous surface as you've shown (personally that would be my preference for this specific part) or do you want to have a bunch of bodies that can be turned on/off individually. EIther way, you can get it done and the toolpaths should work out the same, but if you for some reason wanted to be able to activate only portions of the bodies created for toolpath operations (not a good example of that here), then having a way to individually turn them on and off does make some sense. Figured it would be a good learning opportunity to show there is a way to do that.

I haven't figured out yet how you do the screencast in Fusion, so I still use my old method. Need to take some time to figure that out.

I don't even know what's going on here. Did you select the patches in the Geometry tab under the Model checkbox?

Its worth noting too that the delete key is your friend in these instances.  You should be able to click both inside walls of a slot and hit delete and Fusion should solve the resultant.  We use it every now and again to create blanks as they come from the lathe before mill ops (without any holes/features and with any plus stock). The only time the delete key doesn't work properly is when another feature needs to be deleted first (trying to delete a counterbore without deleting the hole under it wont work for example)

That's really quite an impressive feature of the software! It's great to learn new tricks like that. Thanks for sharing.
