left over bits in narrow areas

Hello,

I creating a 3/16" deep pocket in some cursive writing that has narrow spots.  I'm also running a radius along the bottom of the whole pocket.

Adaptive clear is done with a 1/4" flat end while the radius is a 1/8" on one test and and 3/32" on the other test.
I am left with some raised bits in the middle of narrows that the ball nose doesn't get.  I can cheat this material away by running multiple roughing passes with the ball end but now it's doing unnecessary passes along the wide open areas

I know I can use REST machining with an 1/8" endmill before running the ball nose through but I'm trying to avoid 1 extra tool change.

Any good tips on getting that material out of there? using the 2 bits ( 1/4" flat and 1/4" ball nose) for test 1 and (1/4" flat and 3/16" ball)test 2.

Thank you.

Hi @suretech1

Could you send a screenshot of where the areas of excess material is left? I can't seem to figure out where you mean from the description or project.

Thanks,

If I understand correctly, you just need to rest rough it. By that I mean just run a subsequent adaptive program with rest milling ticket, using a smaller radiused tool. @suretech1 does this make sense and answer your question?

I see that you used 10 % of ball endmills diameter as step over, that leaves large ridges on bottom surface between passes.

Lower that to about 1 third of current value and bottom surface should improve .

Edit:

You also may want to make more radial passes because it looks like tool is missing middle area.
