In the attached simulation screenshot, you can see a large area of the lathe cutter is engaged with the stock.  Is there a setting to prevent this?

I believe this would fall under your max depth of cut in your roughing passes, or trim the "back" selection

Please click "Accept Solution" if what I wrote solved your issue!

Depth of cut is already pretty small.  Here you can see the toolpath

Would you be able to share your Fusion file here?
File > Export > Save to local folder, return to thread and attach the .f3d/.f3z file in your reply.

Sure.  The setup is Named "Pawn Diamond".   And it's the roughing toolpath.   FYI - I'm doing this on my Tormach Mill, not a lathe using mill-turning.

I would use a Sketch to help reduce the increased tool load:

Thanks.  That didn't occur to me.  I was considering making another body that would be at the bottom of the chess piece where the problem is, and making that the angle such that to tool wouldn't make such large contact.

Some toolpaths have a "No Drag" checkbox which is a similar issue.  I'm surprised there isn't something for this scenario.  It seems to me it would be pretty common.

@SGoldthwaite we have a tool clearance angle that allows the insert to stay away from the model. we've already had a few requests to allow the tool to stay away from the stock as well. I believe that would be the ideal fix for your issue. I will note this request under that ticket.
