Issue with 5-Axis Geodesic Strategy on Hurco Machine

Hello,
I am experiencing an issue when using the 5-axis geodesic strategy on a Hurco machine equipped with a rotary table.

I need to generate a toolpath on the opposite side of the current one (as shown in the attached image), but I am unable to force Fusion to switch the machining side.
The current toolpath is not usable, as the machine reaches its travel limits due to spatial constraints.

I would like to point out that in the Machine Builder, the head tilt preference is correctly set to negative. However, Fusion does not seem to respect this setting when using the geodesic strategy, unlike the 3+2 strategies, which correctly generate the toolpath on the intended side.

I would like to know whether this issue is due to an incorrect setting in the strategies on my part, or if it is a limitation or bug in Fusion.

I would also like to ask whether this issue is exclusively related to Fusion, or if it could be caused by the post processor loaded in the machine configuration.

Hi

 

It seems to be to do with having the Primary mode using From Curve that's forcing a positive pose even though you have prefer tilt set to Negative in your machine Definition.

 

Try this instead:

Set the Tool orientation to "Look at" the feature straight on.

Set the Primary Mode to vertical

Turn on collision avoidance

thank you for your reply and for the attention to my case.


The proposed solution is valid, but I’m concerned that the surface quality might be worse compared to my current strategy, since all axes would be moving simultaneously.

 

If the issue were related to the "From Curve" strategy setting, it wouldn't explain why the same toolpath, 2_SEMIFINITURA, as shown in the attached picture, is executed correctly from the desired side.

 

At this point, it seems that Fusion is not considering the preference set in the machine definition. I would appreciate it if this case could be further investigated to determine whether it's a Fusion anomaly or a project configuration issue.

When we evaluate the machine's preference we're primarily looking at the first point in the toolpath. There are other factors such as trying to avoid retract & reconfigure moves, but they don't apply here.

Your 1_SEMIFINITURA toolpath is tilting the way it is because the first point is tilted in the opposite direction to the rest of the toolpath. Since it's that first point that has the most influence, we use the preference to choose to tilt in negative B at that location, but that means the rest of the operation ends up with a positive B tilt.

 

2_SEMIFINITURA doesn't show this issue because it starts at the other side of the feature so its start point is tilted in the same direction as the rest of the toolpath. You can use the "Preferred lead-in position" option in the linking tab to move the start point of 1_SEMIFINITURA to a similar location on the feature it's machining which will cause it to tilt the correct way.
