Importing STP File into Tool Manager

Hi everyone, please forgive me if this is a really amateur question but I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere. I have been advised to use Sandvik tools when programming but I cannot seem to import the STP files from their website into the tool library in Fusion 360. Please help!

thank you

How could this be suggested as an enhancement?

@pjlaw you can create your idea at the https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/hsm-ideas/idb-p/231

Thing is, I'm fairly certain this has been asked before and had an IdeasStation post made about it. You might want to do a search first. But, I wholeheartedly agree; Lathe tools certainly got the short end of the stick regarding pre-built tool library options..

Try this solution if you want to have tool recommendation, cutting data recommendation and a swift way of building 3d tool assemblies directly from within Fusion.

@CRANDALLPRECISION STP tool model import is on our list of improvements to make, we recognize the need for it. I don't have any timeline to share, but it is something we are aware of.

Hey bro

Right now there are almost 2 years that you said autodesk would make that change. But until now we can´t import files(tools) with .stp extension. Normally I use tools from ISCAR which looks like they are not autodesk partner and I can´t use there format of tool as fusion 360 doesn´t allow me to maker a tool with the shape I need. I am starting to belive that Autodesk is not interested to make that change and if it is because of their partners I have only one thing to say. Your best partners are who pay for the monthly fee. I think you understand.

Hope changes come throught quicker.

What sort of a tool are you trying to import? Internally, we do have some of the framework needed for an STP import, but there are some sizeable limitations at present. I'd like to see if your needs would be addressed with what we've knocked together thus far..

Development is certainly never as fast as anyone hopes it would be, neither from the developer side, and most certainly not from the customer side.

Thank you for your quick reply.

Here is the link of ISCAR website with the tool I am using(this link is the assembly page with downloadble file for the tool): https://www.iscar.com/eCatalog/Assembly.aspx?SHR=5tzkj0hc.eup

I know that development is not soo quick. But I am developer as well and in 2 year with the team autodesk have this problem is one of the smallest you have. I am asking this because many people who really use Fusion and is machinning everyday sometimes run into this problem. And it is a huge time consuming.

At present, I don't think that sort of tool would import well, as it doesn't match a profile of a tool we do have. Circle Segment tools aren't even supported yet, and if/when they do become possible to define in Fusion, there's only going to be a small selection of toolpaths that can even support them.

This tool appears to be a combination of both barrel and lens type circle-segment tools, so likely not to be a supported profile/candidate for import.

What about for lathe tooling, I use a lot of Iscar tooling as well and this would be a huge help. Or if you have any tips for us with tools that are not in the current partner tool libraries that are available. Thank you

We are still working on a reliable method of importing solid models of turning tools. At present, Fusion users will still need to model their own tools directly in the library. In the future, we hope to close this limitation.

Any update on this. I just want Haas tools. Not all of them are in the import. Man it would be awsome to just import the step!!
