imported sketch is lagging and cannot generate toolpath

Hello,

I have a vector portrait picture on illustrator that I want to import to fusion 360 to engrave it on MDF.

I have saved the picture as .dwg and then PURGE the drawing on Autocad in order to save it in .dxf but with smaller size file. The resulted file size is 5704 KB. I tried importing SVG ( I dont really know the difference between SVG and DXF) but SVG was a much smaller file but it also caused Fusion to lag alot so I went back to DXF.

I imported the .dxf  into fusion and it it giving me a hard time loading. I went to CAM and selected engrave and unfortunately had to select contour lines one by one and ended up selecting 3891 lines! 

Now the toolpath is not generating and it stops at 10%  and I've been waiting for 2 hours now. 

The size of the stock is 30x30 cm it is just a small piece of work I did not think it will be that hard to do. Btw I am a beginner and I'm still learning so any tips would be very much appreciated.

Is it a single line contour or double line?

Engrave is a tool that created a single line engraving guided by 2 rails.

If you only like to mill the contour on one Z- level you can use Trace.

each line is a closed loop and the engraving will follow the line.

the toolpath finished few minutes ago which took around 2 hours to generate.

do you think trace will take less time? I chose engrave because I wanted the finish to have multiple z axis but I have to find a solution to lessen generating time

Hi @Anonymous,

Trace is only one depth.

If the results is what you are looking for, why not breaking the operation down in more operations.
