I set up a part origin for machining. How do I view the as machined

I set an origin in my set up. How do I view the part from the top view as I would be looking at it on the machine? The model I imported is not normal to any of the existing planes......

 DOH! Reading fail. Disregard

My initial response was based on a  quick read of his question.

I guess the best way to answer your question is; Well, you really don't need to visually align the part. If you have made a Setup and you have defined the Z and X axis, then Fusion is all set and knows where it's at. If you have questions about making a Setup and aligning the axis for proper CAM functions, might I suggest this YouTube video from Lars https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qmx5DUvvmxI   It's a little dated but the info is still good and the workflow is mostly the same.

If you are trying to do something else and I'm misunderstanding (again) let me know

As gearsoup rightfully stated, your part does not need to be oriented correctly as long as the WCS is set.

If you want to change the view orientation anyways you can easily do that with the view cube in the upper right. Check out this quick twitter video:

Hope this is helpful. Now go and make some cool parts 🙂

Best,

Thanks guys! I am a Master Cam user for years. In Master cam each set up is defined by a WCS just like fusion. The difference is, Master Cam gives you the ability to look at the part orientation as it is set to your current "tool plane"or  WCS. it is handy to be able to look at the tool plane from the top, front and so on when simulating tool path. I program parts received from customers, and they are oriented in any which way.

My current part I created a plane based on the bottom of my part, aligned Z and X from faces and an edge, then set XY zero from a created point, all good. But I would like to just click on a button to re-orient the part normal to my machine axis. Simple.......... currently I need to rotate the part around VIA mouse to try to look at the front, top and so on, kinda a pain in the rear........

I am not a novice been a machinist for over thirty years teach G and M code programming, and Master Cam at a local college.

I am new to Fusion 360 still learning, so be nice to me people  🙂

Ps: would love to work with a post developer to create some solid post files........

On that last bit; the posts for Fusion (and Inventor/HSM) are very editable. In fact, there is even a whole forum dedicated to the topic! http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/post-processors/bd-p/218

Lots of good info there, tutorials, videos, resources and so on. Definitely recommend taking a look

On the first bit: I hear ya. I come from MasterCam and then later Esprit. I still find myself looking for that one button or one keypress that doesn't exist in Fusion.

I know there is a "Look At" button (middle of screen, bottom) but I don't know how to set new user views. Perhaps a question for the Design Forum?

Have you ever considered one of these guys? http://www.3dconnexion.com/products/spacemouse/spacenavigator.html

Well worth the money. Flip parts around, zoom out and in, 2 keys which you can bind to your most common functions. Good stuff

@as8UDWS you've dug up a 6 year old post and as your first contribution to this active community you've left two words; "same here".

Would you care to expand on your succinct description and, well, help us so we can help you?
