I have designed a civil war cannon barrel [and limber and caisson] and have a machinist renting from me who will turn several for me from steel and have them bronze plated. He uses an old CAM program [Bobcad 19 I think] that will not open my .iges. He has nice machinery but has been limping along on this old program. I am trying to switch him to F360 but he is overworked trying to make a living.

We have tried that- F360 sez it will output both but there must be some magic involved. I have searched the internet with no luck- the program is changing so fast that it is hard to search for current info. Thanks Gene

i mean like export it as an .iges and go into windows or mac whatever you have and change the extension to .igs

I understand and we did that- his program will not open it. I am sure it is the Bobcad software, but it works for him and it is hard to switch to something more modern. Gene

@geneuselman

Have you tried using a .dwg or a .dxf, the old BobCAD V19 will accept either of those file types.

that's weird. you do have extensions set to visible in your windows folder properties right? if not it wont actually change the extension and will only add the new extension as part of the name.

i attached a picture of what your desktops icons will look like if it is enabled. notice it shows the extension on all files except for long names.

Yessir- I have been using W7pro since... forever and have run a sign/graphic shop for 25 years, I always defeat all of the windows efforts. I have tried every kind of file he can import, but will try them again. Thanks Gene

I open the .iges file in FreeCad then export into .igs.  It works for my tube cutting software.  Just changing the extension doesn't do the job for me.
