But its because my workflow appears to be completely different from everyone.

Most people set up a library specific to the part they are working on.

I actually use one library for my machine and pull tools out of it into the operations I am doing. If I break a tool, or need to change a tools length I'll change it in the machines library rather than I documents library. This way no matter what new part I am working on the simulation will always reflect what is actually in the machine. Now obviously these leads to some issues for me.

1. When creating a feeds and speeds file for a specific tool if I hit edit tool in an op it will not update the tool back in the machines library but only in the current docs library.

2. Editing the tool will only update the tool for the current doc library. Based on my workflow it would be nice if I could decide if it also update the machines library.

All I need is a checkbox or prompt to also update the original pulled tool.

Couple of things I've noticed with the new library

1. The filters still don't save when closing the tool library. This was brought up back in the March update and still was not fixed in Aprils.

2. The tool holders library is not accessible from what I can tell. If I want to grab a Maritool holder I have to switch back to the old library than re enable the new library.

Other than that I think the new library is great. Unpopular opinion as far as I can tell.

I feel the same way. I love being able to setup multiple presets for feeds and speeds, stepovers and stepdowns it makes programming so much faster. But it does have its quarks that will eventually get worked out. It seems they've been working pretty hard on it. Like you said filters don't save which is really annoying trying to find a tool number in the list haha. But I think its heading in the right direction. Although this last update gave me a graphical glitch and i cant edit tools but hey. its still preview.

Yea the new library lets me absolutely fly through prototyping stuff now with different feeds and speeds. I'm making knives so material is always changing 🙂

I'm sure when its fully fleshed out it'll be great.

Hi @boggsjon141 ,

Great to hear you're enjoying the new tool library and thanks for your feedback! In case you hadn't seen it, we have a Forum thread dedicated to feedback on the new tool library here.

Linking edits to document tools back to the original tool they came from is something we've thought about before. Thanks for raising it here - I'll discuss with the team whether this is something we could look at putting on the roadmap.

We're hoping to do some work on saving applied filters soon, so look out for it in future updates!

We have removed vendor tool libraries from the new tool library since they can cause reduced performance if they are all used and most users won't need all of them. You can download and add the Maritool holders or other vendor libraries from https://cam.autodesk.com/hsmtools and then import them into the new tool library.

Thanks for the reply Matt! I will look into adding the tool holder library. That is obviously a valid reason for not including them with the new library 🙂
