How to machine a Knurl like pattern on a round edge bezel?

Hello Forum,  Its been months since I have been on here. I have a challenging job (for me). I need to machine a brass bezel that is approximately 4" in diameter and has a filleted/radiused edge. There are 300 of these knurlings all the way around the fillet/radiused edge. They are approximately 0.013" wide and 0.011" deep. I need suggestions on what tooling to buy (V tool, engraver, other?) and what tool path to use in Fusion360? I was planning on holding the round stock in a 3 jaw chuck, mounted to my CNC mill horizontally. I make most of my bezels this way and it has worked well. If you have any constructive suggestions I would appreciate hearing (reading?) them. Thanks, Jgaertner

Hi @jgaertner,

would something like this work?

knurling.jpg

I've used a 1mm ball for the example. using trace toolpath with a -0.1mm offset and using the circular patten function.

That is very helpful. Thanks. I think I will have to try your idea. What did you select for your tool path in trace? What I mean is my model has all the knurlings featured. Would you suggest I just draw lines? I have used trace but not in this manner. Could I look at your Fusion file somehow?  Jgaertner

I did it rough in the example I gave you. this is what I should have done! knurling sketch.jpg

create sketch on the center plane, create circle (20mm dia), dimension to known values, trim the circle along the intersection line then I would select the remaining curve as your chain under geometry within the trace toolpath

j.mitch.97, So I uploaded your file and it looks like its a VM24X base plate mechanism? Maybe you shared the wrong file?   Jgaertner

OK, I was able to open your original file. Thank you for your help. In simulation I get a tool crash at the start of every cut. Have to figure something else out to remove this issue.  Jgaertner

That worked with no tool collisions. I will set up a sample in Aluminum and see what the results are. Thank you for your help. I will post some pictures in a few days. Jgaertner
