How do i toolpath this chamfer?

I have successfully done some chamfers in previous projects (once i researched and learned not to use the primary chamfer function, and that the bottom height is overidden by the tip offset!) but this time only some of the contour is chamfered.  I only want the section that is chamfered to be chamfered.   It seems that the way the toolpath is at the moment would chamfer all of it, and i haven't been able to fix it.  I am referring to the last operation in the setup.

It would appear to be an issue with the Model, using the "open contour" method of selecting an edge for one end and then then a second one for the other end will only work for half the model, I had to do two lots of selection to get it to work.

In the image below you can see where the second Red arrow is where I had to do the second selection, crude but it works, this is either a "bug" or as above an issue with the Model 🙂

Works for now at least it can be cut 🙂

The previous job where i did a successful chamfer i selected the lower contour of the chamfer.

For this one i forgot and selected both, and its not working because it selects the unchamfered area as well and chamfers it.

When you did your MOD, you selected the upper contour only.  When i simulate it i see that it is doing an oversize chamfer, refer below (no its not turning the corner).

OK, all I did was get it to toolpath, all you need to do is select the bottom edge as in the image below and you will get the Chamfer as in the second image, modified file attached 🙂

I have worked out that if i select the lower edge of the chamfer as a machining boundary, then left click on that selection, it goes from blue to red and a little dialogue thingy comes up, i can choose "open contour", then green "+" sign, then the only part that is selected is one line of the lower chamfer.  So theoretically this weird method could seemingly get me all the way, except it would take maybe 15 minutes of incessant clicking, and if i make a mistake i may have to start again.  This is really weird and surely there is a better way?

I managed to sort this chamfer by using my above mentioned technique, very tedious but i got there.  But my technique isn't working for the chamfer on the remaining component, the one with heaps of holes in it.  It creates an extra line midway between the two contours and no amount of fiddling has gotten me there.

Right, rather than me doing another file I thought that a short Screencast might help clarify things for you.

You don`t have to select every section laboriously as you have done, there is a "short cut" where you only need to select each end and good old Fusion will fill the rest in for you 🙂

On your slotted plate there is a problem I think with the Model as I said before but anyway, have a look at the Screencast and hopefully it will make things a little clearer for you, link below for the Screencast 🙂

Glad you have it sorted, it is quite easy once you get used to it.

 

Correct, nothing obvious about it anywhere, I can`t take the credit, it was shown to me by @sethmadore a couple of years ago, it has been around a while.

 

Still don`t know why the toolpath needed to be done in two halves unless you just drew half and did a Mirror, if so then that would probably be a "bug", there does seem to be some issues when the Mirror function is used.

 

Anyway, as long as you are "up to speed" and can get the job done is all that matters 🙂 🙂 🙂

I did not mirror it.

There were so many edits as i designed it, where would i start if i was to try to identify any issues?

I know sometimes i end up with micro fissures in things, sometimes they are solved by extruding a face through the component.  It would be interesting if the program has a feature for finding micro fissures.
