How do I machine down nice and slowly

I'm new to Fusion 360 so I've managed to create my shape and I'm practicing on foam block. I will need to machine into HDPE nylon block eventually. However - the tool path is way too aggressive and just goes straight in and around - so I know it will snap the miller (3mm x 50 length).  How do I make it so it just does horizontal - then down 1 mm - then the next layer and so on.  I don't need to mill out 100's of these - so there's no 'hurry' as such.  Also, some tutorials seem to do a 'clearing' or a 'rough' go first. Is this generally 'best practice'?

Please see attached. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

Roughing out the material and coming in for a finish pass is certainly advised in most cases. Material and tooling deflection tend to leave a poor finish and out of tolerance condition. Only you know the intended usage and size requirements, so a finish may or may not be required.

For multiple depths, you will want to look at "Multiple Depths" and setting it to a value you prefer.

If you want a more targeted answer, could you export and attach the .f3d file?
File > Export > Save to local folder. Return to thread and attach the .f3d file in your reply

I've changed the 'multiple depths' option to 1mm but it appears to still push sideways through the block (which at the moment is only foam so no big problem).  I've attached two files - the GCode and the .f3z (I couldn't see .f3d as an option).

A related question is how do I change the size of the 'chuck' in the machine. The simulator has a massive chuck whilst my 3018 'hobbiest' machine is only 18mm diameter.

Thanks

Andy

It is not possible to attach .f3z files directly to the forums. You will need to put it in a .zip file.

Better yet, break the links and export the .f3d. It will be easier on my end, for sure.

I am really new to Fusion 360 so I'm definately the problem here :- )   I've zipped up the f3z file (I can't see an option for f3d file to export).  Also a screen shot of the path and a 'quick question' about the 'chuck size'.  In simulate the tool is 'Holder' but the other options (flute / shaft) don't make much sense to me.

Flute/shaft only shows the tool itself and not the "chuck". You can select different holders in your tool setup dialog. It looks like you have a default ER32 set. You can change to be the exact kind you have.
