Hello!

On the front side of a knob I need some fine engravings. For this I want to use this lathe boring bar tool. But I was not able to define it.

Thanks for any help

If you want to use the engrave operation you have to use a chamfer tool, just set it up with the correct included angle.

Hello and thanks for your answer.
But I don't quite understand.

I can only find/define a chamfer tool in the milling category.. When I choose such a milling tool for a front grooving on a lathe, I get a "tool not allowed" message.

Can you give me an example?

So you want to profile on a lathe not engrave?

Set up as a boring tool with hand set to neutral should work. If it doesn't like that you can try as a general tool and set the orientation to 90°. If these options don't work can you export your f3d and share here?

Hello Mark!

I'm so sorry. English is not my mother tongue. That's why I called it engraving, because it's very fine.

But you're right: it's profiling. But the function that I have to use in Fusion is Turning Groove.

I defined a tool as you recommended (Hand neutral was the trick). But unfortunately I get the same error message again. The same error message for general tool rotated.

I have attached the file.

If you want to use grooving you have to use a grooving tool but no way to define the tool you have as a grooving tool. Only options might be profile and constrain the width of cut using the inner and outer radius so only a small area is machined.

Just noticed your file, I'll see what I can come up with.

The best I can come up with is a tool like below. Doesn't quite look right in the simulation but might be worth trying as the simulation is not 100%. File's attached. Take a look at tool #7

Hello Mark!

Thank you for your efforts. That looks interesting. But there is no file. Just a picture.

Hello Mark!

A interesting tool!😁

But it seems to be working. I will test it.

It is astonishing that there is no normal solution for this, not so extraordinary, function.

Thank you very much

Jan
