Holes in Acrylic

I am trying to cut a 15/64 (0.234") hole in 1/2" acrylic using an 1/8 O flute bit on my 3XXL with the Carbide router. I am having the hardest time getting the hole to be accurate in dia. I am using Fusion360 to generate toolpaths. The holes are turning out to be smaller than the 15/64". I have tried to make the holes bigger but find that the consistency is just not there. One hole will be good then the next will be too small. I have also tried several different toolpath types but still can get accurate holes. I have to be missing something or maybe the 3XXL is not rigid enough or maybe the stepper motor increments are holding me back. I am using the Amana 51445-K 1/8 O flute bit with a 1/4" shank. I was hoping the 1/4" shank would help with deflection.

What type of tool path would you recommend and what feeds and speeds? Or any other advice would be awesome.

Thanks

Hi

The toolpath strategy has no effect on dimensional quality (unless you marked an allowance and forgot about it).

The source should be sought in:

  • rigidity of the machine
  • quality of the clamping
  • hardness (and other characteristics) of the material to which the cutting parameters should be adjusted

you're feeding too fast because its a small feature. check all belts for tightness too.

This seemed to work along with changing to conventional milling.  Thanks man!
