Having issues with engraving depth

I am trying to use Fusion 360 to create code to run my Sherline Masso mill for engraving.  The output is very frustrating, the depth when doing hard material (stainless steel) goes from OK to I was sure it was to engrave here.  When I tried engraving two color plastic for name tags the depth variation is such a level that the lower color does not show up continuously.  I looked at the nc code and where I told Fusion that the depth is to be .3mm deep it is calling for from .07 to .3 with over  90% of the z depth callouts to be less than the design.  This takes a ton of time to edit out this garbage.  What can be done to convince Fusion that when I say I want this depth I mean it?

@shirkbw that's your posted NC code. What Josh was looking for is your Fusion file itself.

 

File > Export > Save to local folder, return to thread and attach the .f3d file in your reply

Not sure if this helps or not, this is about as simple a design as I could make, it is for a name tag.

Hi @shirkbw, I have a few suggestions, but basically the engrave toolpath is meant to do what you don't want it to do. I've attached a file with some alternative toolpaths and a workaround. First the 2D contour toolpath will remain at a constant depth like you are looking for unfortunatly this is not the best way to cut Fonts as most have a thickness and when the tool can't fit it won't go thought areas. So second tool path is trace this will follow the lines and cut at a constant depth but corners will stay rounded as that is the nature of the tool. Lastly is the workaround here I made a much smaller tool that fits down into the text and will not ride out of the cut until completely necessary I used your original toolpath and just modified the tool. Take a look, hope this helps.

If I may add something, I believe the best way to achieve what you want is to select a font MADE FOR CNC engraving. Googling for "CNC Font", or "single line vector font" will bring you a lot of results. Some are free, others are not, but a single-line vector font solves the problem of Fusion attempting to go as deep as needed for the wider parts of the font.
