Having a problem with controlling X retract during a bore finish on a lathe

Hello,

I'm trying to help the engineering lab here at school automate the recreation of SMC parts for a robotic assembly cell.

I have successfully programmed all the parts accept this one. There's a bore fracture that's quite tight and I can rough it fine but when the finish pass goes to retract it passes centerline colliding with the part. Is there any fix for this so I can use the finishing type toolpath or will I have to make another roughing style toolpath to gain retract control? Please advise attached is a cross-section during the cooccurrence of the collision.

Thank you,

Certainly here's the link to the file in question:  https://a360.co/3WcGjpX I'm primarily a mill programmer however I've been taking the classes for the lathe associate exam. However I have done some lathe programming just nothing requiring ID boring so that's where I'm staring to run into problems. Thank you for your assistance!

It is just the way that you have used the setings under the Radius Tab, see the image below, I have used the Model ID for the Inner Radius and then set the Clearance from the Inner Radius as a - (Minus) value of -0.25 enough so the tool doesn`t cross the center line and it works OK 🙂 🙂

Thank you for your reply! I didn't realize that's how it was controlled thanks for the feedback.

Ok that solved the initial problem with the finish pass. Now I’m having issues where it says holder collides with stock during the rough turning. I don’t understand how it’s colliding with the stock the share link I posted earlier has the updated tool path information. Thanks for your assistance I want to make sure the collisions are actually collisions and not just phantoms or calculation errors and would like to resolve them if possible.

If the Face operation has been done then there is no collision, so as long as you actually machine it in the correct order at the Lathe then all should be OK. You can move the "Z Clearance" out to say 0.025 and the Roughing will start further away from the stock so even if the Face has not been done you will not get a collision 🙂 🙂
