Haas : 4th Axis Rotary Rapid Moves are too short and slow for the machine

Hello, 

I am creating a wrap toolpath , and Fusion 360 is generating very small segmented moves , this causes too much points to be output as G0 Moves and the Haas HRT210 Rotary becomes very very very slow.

 

I tried changing the Tolerance , turned on Smoothing , but it still generates to many segmented G0 Moves , I found a similar post somewhere on the Forums , the solution was to loosen the tolerance and select a higher smoothing value , this solution is not working , I also changed it to Always use High Feed but then it simply generates small G1 Moves.

 

This small Black Points on Yellow Segment should be one single move.

Those small lines translates to so many G0 Moves in NC Code.

Any solution to this problem ? , I am attaching F3D File , I am using the Stock NGC Haas Post from Fusion Post Lib.

Hi, 

The haas control doesnt seem to be very good at processing rapid moves that are using a rotary/linear combined move.

 

The fix is to go to the linking tab and set a High feedrate mode

There's a few options that will work for you there, probably the easiest is to use "Always use High Feed", then set how fast you want your rapid feed rate to be in the next dialog down.

 

This will output the rapids as G1 moves instead which the Haas control seems to be able to process

Thanks for posting. This does not solve the problem , switching to "Always Use High Feed" generates the same moves in G1 , I tried to tighten the Tolerance and also tried to select a High Smoothing Value however no change. I think it is a Fusion Problem rather then the Machine Problem. Fusion itself breaks the Rotary moves into segments.

Did you try running the code on the machine?

 

as I explained, it is a problem with the Haas control not liking combined Linear rotary moves in G0

Changing those moves to G1 solves this problem.

 

I suggest you try the High feed mode and see how that goes.

I have no problems with those linearised arcs on my 4th axis and a Heidenhain control, its simply a limitation of the Haas control.

Yes the Rotary still moves slowly , all G0 is replaced by G1 , I checked right now. However if I manually remove those intermediate points / lines of G0/G1 Code from one plunge point to another plunge point , the Rotary moves very quickly.

Like Now :
G0 A10.
G0 A20.
G0 A30.
to G0 A90.

if I remove every G0 Line from A20. to A80. it is fast. I wonder how a Program with so many points in rapid would work on a 5 Axis Haas UMC ? Where one might have 2 additional Axis ?

Hey,

The only thing I can think of is that you have left the Highfeed rate value at the default, which is the same as the cutting feed, you need to increase it substantially, to like the maximum allowed cutting feed for your machine.

If you have the G187 highspeed option for your machine make sure its activated in the NC program window

In terms of the UMC machines it seems that they would have the same limitations, Normally I would say TCPC would solve that issue but the Haas control cannot process Rapid moves with that turned on either.

 

Basically you must use High feedrate mode in Fusion for any multi axis rapid moves(thereby converting them to High feedrate G1 moves) if you want them to behave properly on the Haas control

Hey there , Thanks for your suggestion , I did write a "High Feedrate" of 16000mm/min however the motion is still jittery , I also set the G187 to "Roughing" however I could not only save 4 Seconds on the total program time.

Ok I'm out of Ideas haha,

Ill try running that code on my Machine(Heidenhain) to see how it behaves, when I get a chance.

 

Question - Do the cutting moves(IE the circles on the cylinder) cut smoothly, or are they jittery too?

The Cutting Moves are running at a much slower feed rate , if I look at them carefully I can see segments appearing on the surface. But those segments are too small and the feed too slow , so I could not make it out if it was jittering or not , but the rapid moves happen over a height and that for sure is jittery.

Hi I ran the toolpath in air on my machine this morining and it ran perfectly as I expected.

 

There may be some setting on the Haas control that needs changing, I don't know a lot about them though, Maybe get your HFO to have a look.
