Hi Guys. I have a CNC Mill using Masso controller. The G Code is interpolating spiral in G1 and my mill is hesitating and jerking. There seems to be no option to force it to use G2/G3 code. It seems I have pay for Cam software now too. Surely there is a way around this.

I took a look at the Masso post, it most certainly supports arcs:

It's possible a model issue, could you share your file?

Hi Seth. I sure hope so. Have a look at that. I'm wanting to machine the concave combustion chamber. This is some thing I have done many times but for whatever reason this time I'm having great difficulty. I appreciate any help you can offer

Please share a file that has toolpaths applied, so I know what you've tried 🙂

You say that you've run some code on the machine and it turned out poorly. So, I assume that you've programmed it in Fusion, at least to some extent. Open that file (the one with toolpaths applied) in Fusion, click on:

So, here's your existing toolpath. Take note of all those black dots; those are point-to-point moves:

On the "Passes" tab, down at the bottom, there's an option called "Smoothing". Let's turn that on and see what it can manage to do to smooth out the moves (this inserts arc moves where possible):

Notice that slow trail of black dots? Those are your linking moves to each consecutive step. Smoothing doesn't apply to those. If you want/need a finer finish than that, consider changing to zero "Max Stay Down" (on the linking tab):

Yes but if you look at the tool path above that's the one I was struggling with and I had used smoothing. No doubt this one would have needed it also. I'd be interested to see if you can fix that one for me.

Ah, you didn't mention which toolpath was giving you an issue 🙂

Smoothing has no impact on Ramp, Spiral and a few other toolpaths, as it's a 3d arc. I'd point you back to 3D Contour with the proper settings:

Note; that won't get to the very bottom of the chamber, so you'd have to use something like Spiral or Scallop to remove the remnants.

I forgot to ask; what is your machine and post processor?

Its a very modified Syil X4 and Masso controller. Ok then I'll give this a try. Id say looking at the result you show here it will be fine. As I have done this several times in the past I must have previously been using a adaptive contour. It just makes more sense to use the spiral. Thanks for your super fast response. I have always just battled away with these problems myself but I think I might just start asking for help a bit more. It has wasted my weekend this problem.
